Andrew Goodwin Theory
Andrew Goodwin devised a theory that 'music videos are merely an extension of the lyrics'.
Videos normally tell a narrative.
Lyrics portray imagery based on lyrics It is unusual for lyrics not to relate to the video.
I have supported and argued against Andrew Goodwin's theory by analyzing:
Ed Sheeran-A-team, Fatboy slim- Praise You, Bruno Mars- Lazy Song.
Bruno Mars' lazy song plays both a literal and non-literal to the lyrics as he sings a lyric and he then he performs the action on the screen such as 'throw my hands in my pants'. However at points in the video Bruno Mars starts dancing around in his bedroom and living room with a group of monkeys which have no relevance to the lyrics within the song. After this research into the lazy song video both supports and argues against Goodman's theory as some lyrics have literal meanings and others have no meanings to the song lyrics.
Fatboy slim's video of praise you rejects Goodman's theory as the lyrics have no relevance to the video. The video consists of a group of strangers performing a dance routine in the middle of a shopping center. The only lyrics that play relevance to parts are the video are after the performance when bystanders applaud after the performance could extend the lyrics of 'praise you'. Fat boy slim goes against regular music videos as it is completely made up of performance shots and normal music videos have a balance of narrative and performance shots.
Ed Sheeran's video of A-team has more of a metaphorical meaning to Goodman's theory as the lyrics create images rather have literal meaning within the video. The base of the video is a young woman who is poor and uses prostitution to gain money in order to buy drugs. Some lyrics have literal meanings such as 'go mad for a couple grams' and 'long nights strange men' in this case Goodman's theory is supported as the lyrics support the narrative within the video.

Brief- Music Project A2- Introduction
A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, togetherwith two of the following three options:
1 – A website homepage for the band:
2 – A cover for its release on DVD
3 – A magazine advertisement for the DVD
We were given the choice how to present our A2 project. The choices were using blogger, wordpress or wix. As I used blogger last year for my AS project I decided to continue using blogger as my skills were the advanced on this website than wix or wordpress and was the website I felt must comfortable using.
