Peer and teacher feedback-Magazine cover

After our second screening feedback, we had an inital screening of our poster. Simliar to our music video and digipak screenings, our teachers and peers were asked to evaulate the poistives and the negatives with our magazine cover/poster.

Positives
Nice image used for the cover/advert
Good use of effect in photoshop
The image relates to the video
Picture fits with the music video
Panited effect

Negatives
Can't see the writing
Over edited slightly
Needs information adding
Struggle to see the text
Poster pixels don't work
Colour of text needs to be changed
Doesn't say which magazine it is from

Peer and teacher feedback-Digipak

After our second screening feedback, we had an inital screening of our digipak. Simliar to our music video screening, our treachers and peers were asked to evaulate the poistives and the negatives with our digipak.

Positives
Good selection of images
Detailed writing on the digipak
Good choice on font for text
Shots work well with genre
Good techical use of the camera to create effects (night images)

Negatives
Didn't use a fixie bike in the video
Alot of text on one photo
One of the photos is stretched
Not all of the images fit together as a whole
All font text needs to be the same throughout
The night time  shots don't relate to the music video

Peer feedback-Second screening

During and after our second screening our teachers and peers were invited to make comments on our music video. The assessment had three main focus points: What genre of music they thought it was, positives(strengths) and negatives(weaknesses).

These were the main genres of music that peers and our teachers thought our music was or belonged to:
Indie
Pop
Soul
R n B

The main poistives from our second screening were:
The shots added from the intial screening work well.
I love the way it starts the fade in focus works well.
Good length of shots
Narrative shots are more clear than the intial screening
Good balance of performance vs narrative

Good framing on some shots
Lighting considered on all shots
Graffti shot works well

The main negatives from our second screening were:
Some parts are not synced properly
Some shots are slightly repetitive
A bin appears in some shots
Narrative isn't always clear
Needed more narrative
Genre isn't always clear
More of the graffti shot in the video
Cut the shots either performance/narrative to the pace of the song

Feedback, communcation and understanding of audiences.

After our second screening yesterday, I uploaded our latest version onto facebook. I wanted to gain feedback from our target audience and for our target audience to communicate the positives and negatives with our video. I felt this process was important, in order to acquire feedback from individuals who did not take Media Studies as a academic subject or were related to Media Studies in any way.

On my post of the video:
There were several likes which I'm going to take as a positive and suggests our target audience (14-24 year olds) were communicating and intereacting with us as prosumers.
We also gained two comments on the video:
'Looks very professional (but I'm not an expert)'
'Yeah pal, the video is coming along well'.
The video itself has gained 26 views on Youtube since being uploaded yesterday afternoon.

Self-assessment- Project Analysis

After watching the initial screening of our music video, I have designed a self-assessment of our music video and marked it against the assessment criteria given to us by our teachers.
Currently I would grade our project tasks as the following.

Music video(main task)- Level 2- 15/40
I have chosen to give our music video 15 out of 40 for a number of positives and negatives. Firstly our narrative throughout our video isn't easy to understand/follow and this was indicated to us during our initial screening. Some shots that we have used are not commonly used in the indie/soul (graffiti wall) and we need to revert to similar shots used in the Maverick Sabre videos (e.g. tracking midshot of the performer walking). Some of performance shots are good and well synced with our music but we need to cut more frequently between different performances shots/angles as the song builds. The change in camera focus works well at the start of our music video but we need to use it constantly in the opening shots or not at all.

Digipak(Ancillary task)-Level 2-5/10
I have chosen to give our digipak 5 out of 10 for a number of positives and negatives. All of the group have contributed to the construction of the digipak. As we have to create 6 parts of the digipak we decided to divide it equally between the three group members so everyone had 2 parts each. At the moment we only have 4 parts to our digipak which are looking good and are starting to look like a realistic digipak. I have only given it 5 out of 10 because we have 2 more parts to design and create and effectively our digipak is unfinished.

Advert(Ancillary task)- Level 1-3/10
I have chosen to give our advert 3 out of 10 for one main negative. At the moment our advert is only a poster and is not even close to a realistic magazine advert.

Feedback from Inital screening

The feedback that we recieved from peers and teachers added to the self-assessment feedback the group gave itself after we had our intial version.

 Feedback

Positives

Locations during the music are considered.
Costume is considered and kept simliar through out.
A good range of shots.
Well synced with original song.
Use of camera focus works well on intial shot.

Negatives

Narrative isn't clear.
Audience couldn't understand what we were trying to convey in our video.
Aspects of framing not considered (bin) and (dog walker).
Pace of the song doesn't match with editing.
The pace of cuts could build as the song begins to build.
Use of camera focus not constant.

Plan of action

Use all feedback including self-assessment to our advantage.
Plan a simple narrative that will be effective and conventional.
Re-film performance shots from a range of angles.
Refilm urban narrative shots using tripod instead of handheld.
Consider all aspects of framing at all times.
Upload our initial video to our facebook page and youtube to gain feedback and communicate with our target audience and peers.
Use the pace of our song to mimic our pace of cuts within our music video.
Use camera focus within the music video constantly or not at all.

Maverick Sabre Video(Will Fixie)

This is our inital video that our group used for the first screening process. We had addtional clips to add to the video and aspects we wanted to refilm. We chose to wait till after the first screening process and gain intital feedback from teachers and fellow peers.
